Dental implants are designed to replace one or more missing teeth and may be the right choice for you.

Dental implants are designed to replace one or more missing teeth. If you are missing a tooth, you might be tempted to simply ignore the issue and live with your remaining teeth. But if you don’t replace the tooth, your other teeth will shift in place over time, attempting to fill in the gap left behind by the missing tooth. When your teeth shift, it can create a variety of problems. That’s why it’s important to replace missing teeth promptly. Dental implants are one way to do that. We are pleased to offer this procedure to our Austin, TX area patients.

The Most Important Benefits of Dental Implants

  • Although there are other means of replacing missing teeth – such as partial dentures or bridges, for example – many patients prefer a dental implant because it is very much like getting a brand new natural tooth.
  • When you’re missing one or more teeth, your other teeth shift in order to fill the gap left by the missing teeth. When that happens, it can negatively impact the way your jaw is aligned. That, in turn, can affect the way you chew food or even the way you speak. Left long enough, missing teeth can even change the shape of your face. Dental implants can eliminate the potential problems that arise as a result of missing teeth.

What to Expect with Dental Implants

The procedure involved in getting an implant is lengthy. The implant itself consists of an artificial tooth “root” that is implanted into the jaw. After that implant fuses to the bone, the artificial tooth is affixed to the “root.” Although the process takes several months to complete, the end result is as close to getting a new natural tooth as possible.

While there are many benefits to implants, they aren’t for everyone. If you are missing one or more teeth and considering dental implants today, contact our office to schedule an appointment. Our trained dental staff – which now includes oral surgeon Dr. R. Michael Patton – can meet with you to discuss whether dental implants are the right choice for you.
